  • Hi there Guest. As a reminder - when you are updating/editing your threads in the Requests areas - it is sent to our approval queue to be checked against our site rules. It will take about 24 hours to approve and post. Questions can be sent to Auntie Angel!
  • Hi there Guest! After every update - things are bound to be broken. We're no exception.
If you notice something is missing or not working properly, please use the Bug Report Form to make Rei aware of them. Even if you feel it may be user error or that it doesn't need to be brought to someone in admin. Do it. I assure you it will help leadership in the long run.

The mobile site is a little...not great

When I check the site on my phone I have no immediate way of seeing if someone has sent me a message or posted in a thread. Is that something that can be looked in to? I just learned today I have to click my little picture to see but that wasn't intuitive.

Thanks,

Prox

Hmm... I just wonder if there's a site preference that the owner/admin could adjust so you can see notifications easier. Like a little red thing on your dp so you know SOMEthing happened, you know?

As jank as my other forum is, it does do good with notifications. I like to be able to read things on my phone but I feel it's just not intuitive

Okay I see it. Damn, I like the blue version visually more but I'll figure it out

Hi Prox, I'm sorry the mobile version of the site doesn't fully suit your needs. Unfortunately, there is no "option" I can check that will make the notifications pop up on the default layout of the site as it is a flaw in the original coding. While I do basic adjustments to the site as needed and am in control of a large portion, I personally don't have the skill necessary to pinpoint the exact issue and fix it myself without accidentally messing up some other aspect of the site.

I installed slide-down alerts to help mitigate this issue. Whenever you receive an alert and log in, slide down alerts will appear letting you know of all of your alerts, but they take a second to load. Your other option is to just get into the habit of tapping on your profile picture whenever you check the site and bringing up the drop down menu, as the "Alert" button listed will still show whether you have alerts or not with a little red notification attached.

These are unfortunately the best I can do, and I definitely understand that it can be an inconvenient adjustment. Unfortunately I just like this layout too much and have worked hard on molding it to fit Umbra's needs that I've begrudgingly accepted this one flaw in its design. I hope that with some time the flaw won't bother you too much. <3

Thank you for reaching out to me. I changed the layout per DappledLion's suggestion and that has made it easier already though the colores aren't as relaxing as the original style layout. I'll adjust no matter. Already this place is run far kinder than my other forum who... let's say... admins aren't as willing to accomodate the people who have issues. A lot of my friends there couldn't even get the site to load up without opening like 6 tabs and waiting a half hour. So a little issue on my end about preferences is considerably not a huge problem.

But thank you.

I appreciate your understanding; know that if I had the skill I would do what I could to cater to everyone's preferences (one of these days I'll get those coding and web design classes fully under my belt).

I can't speak for other sites, but I definitely want everyone to have a nice experience here, even if there are a few awkward bits and pieces to contend with. Hopefully your friends are able to find sites that better suit their needs too (and don't take seven years to load!).

Please feel free to hit me up any time if you have any other questions/concerns. Happy writing!
