Cover up Café
Content warnings! Drugs, violence, murder, +18
I know it's a plot often explored in silly slice of life anime, but I wanted to give it a go in RP. In group RP, no less! I felt like this would be something more interesting when created with multiple people, for one, I think multiple people with their character and plot ideas would just make it way more fun, and I've also wanted to do group RP for a while, just haven't gotten around to.
So the idea would be, simply put, a cafeteria with all sorts of different characters working there, and equally interesting people visiting. But as is with these things, it's more than meets the eye. Originally, the place was created as a cover up for a group of criminals evading the law, but since the beginning, they've had to recruit people outside too. What kind would you like to play? A simple civilian, a student needing funds to keep on studying? Another criminal, who ends up there by chance, maybe someone rivalling the goals of the group behind this cover up cafe? Perhaps a police officer or private investigator, who's desperate for answers? Would you like to play a character part of the group originally behind this cover up, someone who later on gets recruited, or someone who's visiting for coffee, and seeing things they shouldn't have, getting them caught into the web?
Small disclaimer here, I've never led any group RP, so if there's something off or weird or you have ideas, -please- tell me! I want this story to be collaborative, not just the writing, but plotting too. I'm not a DM, per se, I'm just one of the pieces in the puzzle. ♥
Cover up Café stands in the town of Oxdale, between Lenham Close and Chapham East, in a nice corner with a neat little terrace. Sure, it's not the best part of Oxdale, the part where you have your small flea markets and those odd stores that sell knick knacks from the 1970's, trying to sell it as antique. The buildings themselves are beautiful in their own right, however, built in the French Colonial style, with its symmetry and narrow windows. Most of the apartments above have been kept as they were at least for a hundred years, with almost as old residents, but Cover up Café stands out below them.
The terrace has round, glass tables, surrounded with matching vintage chairs, all wiped clean with glass ashtrays and fresh flowers. And above the double door hangs a sign, hand painted, saying "Cover up Café", and a masked ferret wrapped around a cup of hot drink. The colours of the sign are dark and somewhat muted, and while everything seems good and clean, there's a hint of something off about the place. Maybe it's the standing sign by the street, claiming to sell "multiple lunch options", or simply "coffee", while the Starbucks a few streets further would laugh at such simplicity. Everything is painted in the same cream colour as the whole building, with burnt umbra coloured window shutters; the chairs outside, just as well as the ones indoors too. The tables are painted dark brown, making the bright white napkins folded on top of them look crisp and clean.
Opening the door makes the bell ring above it, making a cheerful sound, letting people know that a customer has entered the cafeteria. Behind the counter stands a man, looking straight from a dark, moody pub, pouring himself a cup of black coffee, glancing over the counter like customers are a necessary evil of having this job. He's tall, broad, with large tattoos to the side of his neck and continuing to his bald head, a stark contrast to the pale tan coloured shirt and white apron, with the name 'Cover up Café' on front. Above, in the ceiling, twinkle small lights that give the place a feel of intimacy and comfort. Behind some of the tables are old, leather sofas instead of chairs, and while the leather has cracked at places, they look so comfortable you want to sit there forever. On the walls there is some art of the masked ferret, and small book shelves with old detective stories.
While everything looks good on the outside, you can't help but wonder, is that a smell of bleach being covered with the scent of fresh coffee and spices?
Now that you're a little more familiar of the setting, or how I imagine it being, I'd like to talk about genres and themes of the roleplay. It will definitely be +18, for one, there will be violence. The people owning this café are something the sort of mafia family, while not strictly related, and there will be some drugs involved too. I want to create this base for the RP, but there can be multiple threads - I see every scene related to this being its own thread, where multiple people can RP, or if some people want to take this idea and run with it, for their own private thread, please, feel free! Some threads may have some sexual content too, however, keep the non-con from the group threads unless you know you're all okay with it.
