Hey guys, not sure if this thread has already been made but thought it would be worth a try. I really enjoy TV and having critical discussions about the shows that interest me. I figured I'd take this interesth to the internet. So here goes —
I have been catching up with Hulu's The Handmaids Tale after some had elapsed between episodes. I am finding it slow - painfully slow at times - but not boring enough for me to stop watching. It certainly is an interesting story. The characters are all well crafted, and each episode ends on something of a cliffhanger, which makes one want to keep going.
Skins (UK) is also something I have returned to recently. Partly I put off returning to it because at the time there were so many series on Netflix that I hadn't seen yet, and partly because I just wanted a bit of light entertainment. It's a lot darker in tone, but its not all doom and gloom. There is humor throughout it, as well as quite serious moments. There are a lot of shows that portray teenage life in a way that is unrealistic; however, Skins captures the essence of what it was like to be a teenager very well — the desire to fit into groups, to find your identity, to experiment, to be more independent, to rebel against parents and teachers, to make mistakes and learn from them... That being said, the excessive partying, drinking and smoking I couldn't really relate to but thats more because when I was 16 and 17 I was painfully shy and had no interest whatsoever in those things. I love the way actual teenagers were cast in the roles, and not just random 30 year olds. This show really does do justice to the young people who watch it. All of us on here are no longer teenagers anymore, but for the sake of nostalgia and a good laugh, I highly recommend it. Don't bother with the US one.
Anyone seen True Blood? Recommend? Not recommend? Good? Bad?
