Hello lovelies!

Would it be possible to set up some sort of discord server for more synchronous conversations as a group? Obviously that would require more than just "surprise! Server time!" - and isn't specific to the site coding/changes, but it could be nice to have a little place we could chat with one another.

Thank you so much for all you do. You are all so wonderful and I'm so happy to be here.

I know the discord server would have to be moderated. As for any chat service. My discord handle is on my contact details on my profile. :)

I've known too many sites that have discord servers and drama pops up. I actually just left one the other day because of drama and close quarters syndrome. I just makes me hesitant. Though, I'm always down for group chats relating to a rp we are a part of and exchanging discord handles.

Hullo there guys.

So I'll get right to the point: at this point in time we have no immediate plans to create an official site Discord server.

Not to say that we definitely will or definitely won't down the road. Nev and I have actually discussed this off and on and at length--like before Umbra had even been bought and paid for. It was an early sort of consideration, and it isn't one which has an easy answer. We want to determine how a server would really function in terms of rules and moderation, since neither of us are fans of overly-policed social situations. Plus, like Dao said, it can cause some weird drama in an otherwise stable community.

That said, you are of course welcome to do your own thing with it in the interim. Just be aware that anything unofficial will not be moderated by site or staff and that if an issue comes up it's on the people involved, not Umbra.

And on a more personal note, less admin-to-users and more Nyco-to-you-guys, try and be aware of your mentality when you hang out with a select group from a larger community. It can lead to toxicity almost without intending to. I love all of you guys, and I'd hate to see anyone fall out with one another because of a mistaken sense of elitism.

I have to agree with @Dao Ma here. Discord groups are a breeding ground for cliques, drama, over inflated egos and all other manner of cancer. I also just ditched a site because of this shiz. Not sure it's worth opening that pandora's box of bullshit just for real time direct messaging.

I sound hypocritical but what @Nyctibius @Dao Ma and @Lo have said makes sense. I too have been on sites that used discord or some kind of chat platform. Due to nepotism, a lot of members would get ignored or bullied because they wasn't popular or well known. Eventually they would leave because they didn't feel welcome. I personally fell victim to some of this myself in the past. I do enjoy having a chat platform to talk to other members if they are respectful and welcoming to everyone. It's bittersweet really.
