  • Hi there Guest! This message is to let you know that leadership is aware there is an error in the posting of badges - that the image links themselves are broken. Rei is working to move the items to a different img host, but it may take a little while for the transition to be complete.

Site Update

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the statistically spookiest month of the year! Let's just skip the fluff and get straight to the juicy gooey yummy bits (those are always my favorite bits).

Old Stuff

  • Thank you to everyone who participated in our September Event! As this was the first event for Umbra (and the first put together by certain members of staff), we are honestly ecstatic that anyone participated. Although we can't promise to do events every single month (we are all busy, tired, exhausted, extremely drained adults), we will always try our best to bring you fun activities to waste some time while you're waiting for your next RP reply!

Thanks to these gorgeous people in particular for dipping their toes into the refreshing event pool:

  • As always, we'd like to recognize those who generously donated to the site. You never cease to amaze us with your support! Thank you to these special penguins right here:

New Stuff

  • In celebration of all things Halloween, various members of the Umbra community have put together a Halloween event that will be sure to please! This Halloween, you'll have the option of participating in a spooky site-wide open roleplay put together by @Dao Ma, a crossword puzzle designed by @Nyctibius, and a murder mystery themed riddle birthed into the word by our resident fae, @ReireitheSmileFaerie!

Head on over to the Event Forum to get more details on the bloody festivities.

  • For all of you monster-lovers who adore steeping themselves deep in all things SPOOK, I've put together a Limited Edition Halloween Theme for you to enjoy called "Trick or Treat!" This site theme will only be available until November 1st, so be sure to get your fill in now. Click on the thumbnail below to get a preview of the theme. (Note: The theme is simplified on mobile to make it easier to use/read.)

I've also added a new horror-themed font to the site entitled "Double Feature." If you'd like to see Double Feature become a permanent fixture to our font options, leave a comment below to let me know!
  • Some of you particularly eagle-eyed members may have noticed I've slowly been updating the available emojis on Umbra. This is a long process as each emoji needs to be individually categorized and resized, but I'm making progress! To see what emojis are available for fancying up your OOC posts, click on Insert > Smilies in your editor to view the list.

Future Stuff

  • Next month is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Many members of the roleplaying community will be participating in this annual event, taking some time off from their roleplays to pursue their own novels. I've been considering whether we should hold a NaNo-themed event here on Umbra to assist all those who get into the NaNo spirit, but need to know whether anyone would be interested.

Would the Umbra community be interested in a NaNo event, participating in sprints, writing prompts, etc? If this is something you'd like to see on the site, please let us know down below so we can start planning!

Nyco's Nattering
I actually don't have all that much to say this month. September kicked my ass. I moved into a new house. I'm tired, so tired. But ready! For what? I don't know. But I am. Are you? You'd better be.

Conclusion
September was a long, tiring month for a lot of our fellow writers, but with the festivities and excitement coming up in October, many are feeling refreshed and ready to celebrate (including ourselves). What are you looking forward to for the rest of the year? What would you like to see on Umbra you haven't seen yet? What is your favorite part of fall? We'd love to know, so feel free to post below whatever comes to your gorgeous mind. We're happy you're here with us. [fa]heart[/fa]

xoxo

I would love to participate in this site's NaNo project. I love writing prompts. It inspires me to write short stories.

Reactions: Nevermind
NaNo is awesome...but I haven't been able to participate in full because of my job. Writing prompts and other such challenges sounds like it would be a lot of fun and not nearly as stressful as a full-on fifty thousand word novel. I'm game!
