Sup everyone!

It's your local Smile Faerie here! I realized that we've had so many anime-ish interactions throughout the course of the site (maybe just my weeaboo ass, but that's fine, too!) and I wanted to make a place where we could all have fun together, talking about stuff, sharing our faves, our not so faves, an just overall have a good time!

In terms of rules - obviously follow the site rules here. But the big rule I have iissss:

  1. DON'T BE A DICK PLEASE - If someone likes a show and you don't - that's life!!
We want to encourage one another here. Have a good time, be friends and be kind.

It's literally my whole shebang.

If anyone's out here making people feel seriously bad for enjoying one thing over another - I'm going to cry. And ain't nobody got time for that.

If I bring this forum into this world - I'll ask about getting it taken out if people can't be civil.

Soooooo~! To really kick things off - I've got a few questions for you all! You can pick one or more than one to answer, they're just ideas!

1. What was your first anime?
2. Is there anything you're currently watching? What are your thoughts on it?
3. Is there anything coming out that you're excited for?
4. What is your favorite anime, if you had to pick one?
5. What's your favorite genre of show?
6. Do you have any recommendations for your fellow Umbrabuds to check out? If ya do - are there any triggers/content warnings that should come with them?

I'm really excited for this and am looking forward to hearing from y'all!!!

Currently - I'm watching the Fruits Basket reboot and it is giving me SO MUCH LIFE!!

Why hello there. I am indeed an anime fan~

1. What was your first anime?
Oh dear god, idk where to start. Pokémon? Dragonball Z? Ronin Warriors? But I think my first real serious anime was probably Trigun and Cowboy Bebop.

2. Is there anything you're currently watching? What are your thoughts on it?
Boku no Hero Academia. IT. IS. AMAZING. Aside from that I'm loosely watching Serius the Jaeger on Netflix, and then JUST started Fire Force. They're both interesting but I'm not sure I can put too much opinion yet.

3. Is there anything coming out that you're excited for?
BNHA season 3 is coming up in October!!

4. What is your favorite anime, if you had to pick one?
UGH. THIS IS HARD. It's really a tossup between Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. That is incredibly hard to pick between. Don't make me choose. ;;A;;

5. What's your favorite genre of show?
Hmm... Action, I suppose. But I like dark and thoughtful anime like Death Parade and Paranoia Agent as well. I also like silly and out there anime like Space Dandy.

6. Do you have any recommendations for your fellow Umbrabuds to check out? If ya do - are there any triggers/content warnings that should come with them?
Of course I do!
Cowboy Bebop - A more adult anime with space adventure, a revenge story, charming cast of characters, and an amzing soundtrack. Also, my first Corgi is named after Ein from this anime. He is my Data Dog.
Trigun - Spaghetti Western in Space. The anime is older, and it's shenanigans up until like halfway through the anime, but I think it does a fine job as a more adult anime.
Boku no Hero Academia - Even if you're really not an anime fan, give this one a shot. Seriously. It's a superhero story where the main character is a total crybaby but NOT overly annoying! There is so many layers to this anime and the characters in it. On top of that, All Might is the best.
Fate/Zero - out of the entire franchise so far, Fate/Zero is my favorite. It's all kinds of messed up with no happy ending. I can't say it's the best anime. Some of the characters are awk af, others are edgelords, little kids being attacked by bugs, betrayal, and curses of gentlemen to the later generations.
Death Parade - Not a combative anime, but it is really good. It focuses more on humanity and one's choices when reflecting on themselves in the face of death. Two people enter a bar through an elevator, where they are met by a mysterious bartender. He sets up a game for the two to play. While they play, they reveal things about themselves that led up to what they eventually realize is their deaths. All the while, the bartender with the help of a woman that doesn't remember where she belongs, tries to understand what humanity actually means.

I'm sure I have more but that's all I've got off the top of my head at the moment.

1. What was your first anime?
My first anime? That's kind of a hard one. I grew up watching Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop, and Dragonball/Z on the classical Toonami, but while I respect the classics I also don't think that it personally qualifies as my "first anime". The first one I ever watched all the way through waaassss... oh, god, after some brief research I realize it was in fact the 2003 run of Fullmetal Alchemist. A good show, but it pales so hard next to Brotherhood.

2. Is there anything you're currently watching? What are your thoughts on it?
I'm currently waiting on BNHA s3 to drop in October, and Nev and I have plans to eventually watch OPM s2 together. I'm working my way through RWBY, though, I guess that's only quasi-anime? There's others I have stored or queued that I want to watch; a couple of Netflix shows (I know, blech) and another couple of "normal" ones like Darling in the Franxx.

3. Is there anything coming out that you're excited for?
BNHA s3. I am so. Fucking. Ready.

4. What is your favorite anime, if you had to pick one?
It's a real tossup, honestly. It used to be Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. That show was the first one that reached out and touched me in a big way. It tore my heart to pieces, put it back together, then erased the concept of emotion in a single episode. The action is always intense, the animation is never lacking, and so many of the characters are well done... as long as they have a dong.
Yeah, I love TTGL, the movies are even better, but it's far from perfect. In my honest opinion, Boku no Hero Academia (or My Hero Academia for you non-weeb fucks) is as close to perfect as an anime can get, for an action show. Truly fantastic characterization, action scenes that are absolutely fucking heart-stopping, a story full of genuine intrigue. It doesn't get much better than that.

5. What's your favorite genre of show?
Action. Shonen. Easy.

6. Do you have any recommendations for your fellow Umbrabuds to check out? If ya do - are there any triggers/content warnings that should come with them?
Yes. More than one.
For action: BNHA. If you're waiting on it, just do it. If you hate the genre, well, that's... fair. But I'd still try it. It takes the genre tropes and turns them so that they aren't tired or overdone. I really cannot sing its praises enough.
For something still action, but more intrigue: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
For something pure intrigue with a smaller amount of action: Death Note. The anime, or the Japanese live action movies. NOT the Netflix one.
For something that will quite simply reach down into your soul and eviscerate you emotionally: AnoHana. The full name is Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai, or "We Still Don't Know The Name of The Flower We Saw That Day". It's a fucking mouthful. Just watch it. I'll apologize after. Warning: this one is not for the faint of heart.
For something with a lot of intrigue, somewhat heavy action, and a fair amount of gore and psychological torment: Psycho Pass. A murder mystery whodunit with a super scifi twist. Honestly probably one of the most underrated shows out there in my opinion. It's SO good.

@Dao Ma GODDDDD Paranoia Agent. I fuckin haven't seen that name in fooreevvverrr. RIP Satoshi Kon.

AAAAAAAAAEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHH. (The most exhausting of OP/EDs)

@Nyctibius ANOHANA MADE ME RIP MY HEART OUT AND STOMP ON IT TWICE.

If anyone wants to see titties among emotional distress, aliens, and graphic violence - I recommend Elfen Lied.

Also - Glad we are all on the Macademia Train.

Choo Choo Motherfuckers.

Might set up some kind of discussion zone for that with spoiler tags and shit as we get closer to October.

Who is y'alls fave MINOR character?

Mine is Sirius. The hot sonar babe they made in the filler eppy of Tsuyus internship. Best anime filler I've ever seen in my GODDAMN LIFE.

She was so gooooooddd.

Also -

Another Rec from Rei!

Baccano! It's very good. It's based on light novels but there are so many characters and stories and timelines intersecting.

It's also by the author of Durarara!!! - another anime I hiiighhhlllyyy recommend if you're about action and mystery and cool stuff.

Elfen Lied fucked me up. I can't ever watch it again lol.

I like the bizarre storytelling of Satoshi Kon. Paprika was another one I liked.

And out of the Miyazaki movies, Spirited Away is still my favorite.

I need to watch Rec. I do not know the mood for this and I need to.

Baccano! Was amazing and one of my favorites right there with Kekkai Sensen. Uh... Blood Brothers Blockade in English? I think??

Favorite BNHA minor character... uhhhh... The one who Uraraka mentored with. How minor are we talking? Because Aizawa sensei is the epitome of my rp character archetype xD

DRRR was really good too. I was late in watching it but I'm glad I eventually did.

Gurren Lagan is amazing.

I've been meaning to watch Darking in the Franxx

They definitely just kinda shotgunned stuff - I think the biggest issue the industry dealt with in the 2000's was because stuff was so popular, they just kept producing and producing more things without worrying what would happen if they caught up?

Lots of story was lost to the Aniboom lmao.

Yeeeeah. That could be it. Sometimes it's loss of funding or loss of production. Big O was one of those that lost production halfway through I think. Though I believe that's an American anime.

Trinity Blood was good up until the end where they went haywire to try and complete it. I was so sad

1. What is hour first anime?

Dragonball for sure! I love that show, at the time I did not know it was anime but it is what helped me to find out my love for it. The first one I watched knowing it was anime was Inuyasha, I remember sitting there friday nights in YTV ( it is a Canadian thing). It was Inuyasha, Dragonball then Draginball Z. I waiting every week for a new episode, best parts of my childhood.

2. What are you currently watching?

Kono Suba, it is super cute so far. I love his stealing skill and how everytime he steals panties. Every single girl in the show is also crazy, loving it so far!

3. What is coming out that you are excited about.

My Hero Academi, just like everyone else! Lol

4. What is your favorite anime?

Fairy Tail....I am not ready for it to end......no...NO!! I am even afraid to watch the newer episodes.....every episode I watch I get closer to it ending.

...I do not do well with my favorite shows ending ><
At least I have My Hero to look forward too still. ♡

5. What is your favorite genre?

I love fantasy, magic and action. Not really sure what else to say about this really, I watch I a lot of different thing but my favorites tend to have those three things in common.

6. Do you have any recommendations?

Well let me see, ones that I did not see anyone else say.

High School DxD.

This show makes me laugh so hard, the english dub is actually amazing too. It uses a lot of slang we use today, which makes it all that more hilarious. The Grabbin Dragon is all I have to say lol

Also this is definitely more for 18+ in my mind. Lots of nudity and adult themes. Would not suggest watching this with kids in the room.

Princess Tutu

It is about a duck who wants to be a girl, who does ballet. Been a while since I watched it but I remember loving how adorable it was. Oh, it is also super girly lol

Well I can not think of any else off the top of my head right now. I have watched a lot of anime in my time lol.

MAKO AND GAMAGORI TOGETHER IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PAIRING FROM THAT SHOW BECAUSE THEY'RE WHOLESOME AF.

Also b/c of this innapropriate joke I like to make.
